Football – The Marauders dropped to 1-1 after a lopsided 30-6 loss at home to Cambridge Rindge & Latin. The lone Belmont touchdown was scored by Senior Jimbo Kenneally on a 2-yard run in the third quarter. The Marauders travel to Easton on Friday Sept. 25 to face 1-1 Oliver Ames High School.
Girls Soccer – Girls soccer is 3-0, following two exciting victories this week. The Marauders traveled to Arlington on Tuesday, where they put up an impressive 3-0 win on Arlington’s Soccer Night, with two goals from sophomore Clara Sciandra and one from senior Madhavi Ramadas. Then, on Belmont Soccer Night, the girls had another strong showing, beating Westford, 2-0. Junior captain Cassie Greiner netted the first goal and sophomore Elsa Dubois scored the second goal and earned MVP honors. The team was scheduled to play at Wakefield on Sept. 23 followed by a match with Wellesley on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Boys Soccer – After starting the week with a 1-1 tie against 18th-ranked Arlington on Sept. 15, the Marauders posted back-to-back victories. On Sept.17, the Marauders beat Somerville 3-2 with two goals from senior captain Itai Golani and a last-minute winner from junior Robert Hoerle. On Saturday Sept. 19, they took down Newton North, winning 2-1 behind goals from senior Alessio Elia and Golani, who was named Belmont Soccer Night MVP.
Golf – Belmont kept on rolling, improving to 7-0 with wins against Wilmington and Burlington, on the backs of strong performances from seniors Theo Sorblom, Will Jackmin, and Peter Ausrotas. The Marauders are angling to win a third straight Middlesex League Championship.
Girls Cross Country – The girls cross country team opened its season with a clean-sweep and a 15-50 win against Watertown High School on Sept. 15. The top eight finishers were all Belmont runners, with junior Reece Bundy finishing first, followed by senior Daphne Lee, and junior Brynn Franklin rounding out the top three. The girls were scheduled to face Winchester High School on Sept. 22.
Field Hockey – The fourth-ranked Marauders went undefeated this week with explosive wins against Wakefield, Winchester, and Burlington. The team started the week with a dominant 10-0 shutout over Wakefield, backstopped by sophomore goalie Zoe Bruce. Then, on Wednesday, the Marauders beat Winchester, 3-1, led by impressive defense from senior Nina Sheth-Voss, freshman Lucie Lakin-Schultz, senior captain Elsie Lakin-Schultz, and junior Roisin Reavey. They rounded out the week with a 7-0 victory over Burlington, with senior Avery Reinold scoring two goals. The team was scheduled to face Woburn on Tuesday, Sept. 22, before hitting the road on Sept. 24 to play Reading and wrapping up the week at home on Saturday against top-ranked Walpole.
Volleyball – Belmont is now 3-2 after two losses and one win over the past week. The girls started the week with a 3-1 loss to Wakefield. Then, on Wednesday, Sept. 16, the Marauders rallied after dropping the first set for a dramatic come-from-behind 3-1 win in Brockton. The team lost 3-0 to Burlington on Youth Volleyball night on Friday. The Marauders were scheduled to play Woburn at home on Sept. 22, followed by an away game against Somerville on Thursday, before returning home to face Boston Latin on Sept. 25.
Girls Swim and Dive – Girls swim and dive had an outstanding 105-62 win in its season opener against Wakefield on Thursday. All of Belmont’s relays qualified for states, along with several other individuals, including freshman swimmers Linda Wang and Charlotte Wu. Belmont, the defending Middlesex league champions, looks to extend its early season winning streak when it faces Woburn on Sept. 23.
