Leon Dyer, a teacher at Belmont Middle School, was arrested Saturday and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography.

According to a release from the Massachusetts State Police that Superintendent Jill Geiser sent as part of her statement, Dyer, 45, of Belmont, was arrested on Saturday by Massachusetts State Police and Belmont Police, and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Cambridge District Court.

“Our primary concern, as always, is the well-being and safety of students. We have no information at this time to suggest that this individual engaged in any inappropriate conduct with BPS students, on BPS property, or otherwise in connection with his employment with BPS,” Geiser wrote in a statement released Sunday.

According to the state police, Dyer also worked at a summer camp in Middleboro.

According to Geiser’s statement, Dyer is banned from school property and his school-issued technology accounts have been suspended.

According to Geiser, the school department is reviewing background documents to make sure Belmont Public Schools protocols were followed when Dyer was hired.

According to a LinkedIn post attributed to Leon Dyer, the Ball State graduate has worked in the district for 18 years.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
