The School Committee needs to accommodate the diverse perspectives of all those impacted by our schools.
We don’t have time to waste when it comes to moving forward with policy or acting on issues like digital literacy, social media, and the impacts of the pandemic.
I’m running to bring back the recent K-12 classroom experience to the School Committee, which has been sorely missed without an educator or recent student. I’ll be the only member who’s been in a classroom full-time within this decade, and therefore the only one with on-the-ground experience with the modern challenges and needs that our students are facing.
I’m looking forward to getting started on day one working with the same town leaders I’ve worked with as a Town Meeting Member, and bringing my experience writing and auditing the $1 million Emerson College student activities budget, serving on steering and curriculum committees at education-focused nonprofits, and working with School Committee members and the School Budget as a Town Meeting Member, to issues like curriculum development, budgeting, and student experiences.
As the only candidate to have had legislation passed by Town Meeting, I know what it takes to start clearing the backlog of good ideas Belmont often leaves to collect dust. We need bold solutions to resolve our budget issues, many of which have already been identified. My record is of getting that job done, and I humbly ask for your vote to bring that commitment to execution to the School Committee.
