Baseball: The Marauders started the week strong, scoring five runs in the 7th inning, on the way to an 8-4 win over Lexington on May 12. Timely hitting by Chuck Tingos, Nolan Kelleher and Ryan O’Byrne provided the needed run support for the pitching of Aiden Broderick and Eric Porter. The following day, Belmont lost to a tough Woburn team, before ending the week with a 7-6 loss to Boston English. The Marauders are currently 8-9.
Softball: Belmont beat Wayland 13-1 on May 12, paced by Gigi Mastrangelo’s two hits and three RBI. The following day, the Marauders dropped a 4-1 decision to Woburn, despite 14 strikeouts from sophomore Olivia Ormond. Senior Day and Alumni Day were scheduled for May 19th.
Boys Outdoor Track: In a dual meet against Woburn and Arlington at Reading on May 12, the team posted some solid results. Notable were wins by Takeshi Tatsumi in the 110-meter hurdles and Malcolm Were in the triple jump.
Girls Outdoor Track: In the same dual meet at Reading, the girls track team had a standout performance from Dana Lehr, who won the two-mile race.
Boys Lacrosse: Belmont was scheduled for its final home game this past Monday against Lexington.. The Marauders varsity team continues to play competitive, disciplined lacrosse, while the junior varsity team improved to 9-1 through last Thursday.
Girls Lacrosse: Belmont has been on a roll, winning seven of its last eight games. Recent wins have come against Stoneham, 12-1, Waltham, 10-2, Woburn, 15-8, and defending Division 1 champion Central Catholic, 13-12. The Marauders were 11-6 going into their final games this week against Lexington, Winchester, and Billerica.
Boys Rugby: The Marauders lost to BC High on May 14 in a battle of the state’s unbeaten teams. The team’s final match is scheduled at Catholic Memorial on Friday, May 23.
Girls Rugby: The defending MIAA state champion Marauders secured the postseason’s number one seed for this year’s tournament, with a big win at Weymouth on May 14. The team was scheduled to celebrate Senior Night this past Tuesday, against Cambridge Rindge & Latin.
Boys Tennis: A 3-0 stretch raised Belmont’s record to 10-5. On Senior Night, May 12, Belmont avenged an earlier season loss to Arlington, winning 4-1, led by senior captains Arvino Mahadi, Henry Moriarty, and Soyal Pokharel. Later in the week, freshman Graham Coradeschi clinched his first varsity singles victory, with a three-set win at Stoneham.
Girls Tennis: Belmont dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Arlington on May 12, but rebounded with wins over Reading and Woburn, leaving the team with an 11-5 record. Senior Armela Mahadi won a tough match against Arlington’s top player, but injured her ankle in the process. Mahadi’s teammates, including Ingrid Hellsvik at 3rd singles and doubles pair, Anna Burgarinovic and Joy Son, stepped up to help lead the team.
Boys Volleyball: The short-handed Marauders handled Catholic Memorial 3-1 on May 13, despite missing four starters. The next day, Belmont lost to Lexington.
Ultimate Frisbee: The Ultimate team marked Senior Night with a 14-5 victory over Phillips Academy, improving to 8-1 and extending their win streak to six. Captains Mark Tytell and Seamus Reilly combined for 10 assists, while Oliver Poulin-Kerstien led the defense.
