Belmont High School Sports Wrap, Feb. 9 through Feb. 15

Boys Basketball – Belmont comfortably beat Reading on Senior Night, winning 66-35 on Feb. 12. Junior Braiden Dargon led all scorers with 12 points. The Marauders wrapped up their season with a 68-51 win against St. Mary’s, the No. 1-ranked team in Division 2. Senior captain Andre Chavusian led the way with 16 points and 12 assists. With the wins, Belmont improved to 11-8 and qualified for the MIAA Division I Tournament, despite being ranked at No. 38.

Girls Basketball – The Marauders suffered a loss on Senior Night, losing 56-50 to No. 11 Reading on Feb. 12. The following night, they ended the regular season on a high note, with a convincing win over Georgetown, 66-47 on Feb. 13. Senior captain Sophia McClendon led all scorers with 16 points. The Marauders comfortably qualified for the MIAA Division 1 Tournament, finishing at No. 21 in the state, with a 13-7 record.

Girls Hockey – A flu-ridden Belmont took down Lexington on Senior Night, winning 3-1 on Feb. 12, thanks to two goals from freshman Mackenzie Tierney – one assisted by sophomore goalie Elinor Dorn – and another from sophomore Mia Smith. The Marauders fell to No. 19 Winchester on Feb. 14. The lone goal was scored by senior captain Mackenzie Clarke. With one game remaining, the girls stand at 11-5 and are ranked at No. 13 in the state.

Boys Hockey – Belmont lost twice this week, falling on Senior Night to No. 8 Pope Francis, 5-2 on Feb. 11. Goals were scored by sophomore captains Gabe Kioumejian and Thomas Courtney. The Marauders lost to No. 17 Winchester 6-1 on Feb. 14, with John Connoly scoring the lone goal. The boys finished their season with a 5-12 record, but qualified for the MIAA Division I Tournament, ranked at No. 23.
