Girls Basketball – The Marauders put together a perfect 3-0 week, continuing a strong run with three convincing wins. The week opened on Jan. 20 with a 53-41 victory over Stoneham, followed by a dominant 56-37 win against Brockton on Jan. 22. The girls went on to close the week by defeating Reading Memorial, 48-35. With these three wins, the team has now won seven in a row and sits at 9-4 on the season.
Boys Basketball – The boys basketball team also had an undefeated week, headlined by a pair of hard-fought victories. First, on Jan.20, Belmont defeated Stoneham 68-67 in overtime. Senior Charlie Tingos led the offense with 13 points, while junior Theo Sorblom added 11, in a balanced offensive performance for the Marauders. That win set the tone for their next matchup against Reading Memorial, where the team secured a convincing 58-35 win. A dominant second half made the difference as junior Braiden Dargon led with 15 points, and William Murphy chipped in 10.
Girls Hockey – Theteam had a statement week, highlighted by two huge wins. On Jan. 19, the team beat over Medfield, last year’s Division II state champions, 3-2 in overtime. Freshman Mackenzie Tierney and sophomore Mia Smith both found the back of the net in regulation, and Smith went on to seal the win in overtime with another goal, assisted by junior Elsie Lakin-Schultz. That momentum carried into a 10-3 win over Stoneham. Tierney led the offense with a hat trick, while Mackenzie Clarke added two goals. Additional goals came from Martha Dimas, Sydney Mun, Kate Townsend, Elsie Tandy and Mia Smith. Freshman Ava Keefe powered the playmaking with four assists, and Serena Field was solid in goal with 13 saves.
Boys Hockey – The team finished winless in two contested games. The team battled Wilmington to a 4-4 tie in a back-and-forth matchup. Against Stoneham, the game once again went down to the wire, but the boys fell 3-2 in overtime. This ran the team’s winless streak to eight games.
Track – The boys and girls track teams continue to prepare for the Middlesex League Championships that will take place on Feb. 2. This week, although there were no varsity meets, the freshmen and sophomores competed at the MSTCA Invitational. Sophomore Malcom Were had an outstanding performance in the long jump, with a distance of 19 feet and 9 inches. This moves him to fourth all-time in the school record books.
Wrestling – The wrestling team had a challenging week, facing off against Beverly, Shawsheen Valley Tech, and Lynnfield-North Reading. The team went 0–3 in dual matches, as injuries forced multiple forfeits across several weight classes. Still, there were standout performances across the lineup. Aram Parnagian and Fergus Williams both went 2-1.
Cheer – The cheer team advanced in their sequences and developed their high-level stunts in preparation for their upcoming tournament. The date is currently to be determined.
Alpine Ski – On Jan. 20, the ski team placed fourth out of nine in their division. Junior Rhys Harteveldt placed first overall in his heat, and senior Lucas Durand-Reville placed third.
