With a year to go before contracts expire, a date has not yet been set for negotiating contracts for four units of the Belmont Education Association.

Those units include the educators; directors, assistant directors, and assistant principals; administrative assistants and clerical aids; and finally, the professional aides, classroom assistants, tutors, campus monitors and building-based substitutes.

Contracts for the AFSCME93 union, which includes school custodians and food service workers, were negotiated over the summer, with the goal of having final deals in place before the start of the school yeaccording to School Committee Chair Meghan Moriarty.

“The School Committee is very appreciative of the AFSCME93 union representatives who have made time during the summer to bargain,” Moriarty said in a statement.

She said the School Committee is “working in collaboration with” the Belmont Education Association when it comes to setting dates and times for bargaining sessions.

On Monday, the School Committee entered into executive session “to discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining (ALL BEA UNITS) or litigation if an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the bargaining or litigating position of the public body and the chair so declares.”

The Belmont Education Association could not be reached for comment.
