The Belmont Public Schools hired Darnell Williams as the district’s new diversity, equity, inclusion and wellbeing director.

In early February, the district announced it was in the final stages of hiring a replacement for Chon’tel Washington, the district’s first director of diversity, equity and inclusion.

According to an announcement from Superintendent Jill Geiser, Williams most recently served as the director of professional growth and school culture in Brockton. He previously served as a senior instructor at Cambridge (Mass.) College, a post he still holds.

He has worked as a consultant for DTW Equity Consulting in Georgia and the Department of Youth Services in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Williams graduated from Boston University and earned a master’s degree in teaching and learning from Harvard University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at Lesley University in Cambridge.
