Baseball: Belmont rebounded from a 7-6 loss to defending state champs Boston English, with a come-from-behind win over Winchester, also 7-6, on May 20. Pat MacKinnon’s walk, Thomas Dolan’s single, and Nolan Kelleher’s hit-by-pitch set up Casey Regan’s base-clearing, walk-off double to clinch the win; Ryan O’Byrne had two hits, while Aiden Broderick and Craig Deane pitched well enough to secure the win. The Marauders were scheduled to open the Brendan Grant Tournament against Reading on May 24, but rain was in the forecast.
Softball: On May 18, Belmont knocked off the conference leaders, Wakefield, 2-1. Sophomore Olivia Ormond pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts. The next day, Belmont celebrated Senior Day with a 14-11 win over Melrose and, in the process, clinched a berth in the state tournament. On May 20, the girls lost a 6-5 nail-biter to Winchester. Home finales with Reading and Lexington were set for Memorial Day Weekend, weather depending.
Boys Outdoor Track: At the Middlesex 12 Championship in Burlington, Noah Geiger (mile, 4:36.4) and Jared Rife (2-mile, 9:37.57) medalled. The 4×800 relay team of Rife, Geiger, Isaac Weng and Elias Campisano finished sixth and took home medals as well. Other medals were earned by Malcolm Were in the triple jump and Esmael Peavey in the high jump.
Girls Outdoor Track: The girls are looking forward to the upcoming Division II State Championship.
Boys Lacrosse: Varsity locked up a fifth straight tournament berth and was slated to finish the regular season at Concord-Carlisle on May 23. The Junior Varsity team finished the season undefeated in the Middlesex Conference and 10-1-1 overall.
Girls Lacrosse: A 10-9 loss to Lexington on May 19 was followed by a 9-5 Senior Night win over Winchester. Of note, senior captain Charlotte Mayall tallied her 100th career point in the Lexington game. The 15th-ranked Marauders (9-2 in the conference) travelled to Billerica on May 23 to close the regular season. The JV team was 16-1 going into its season finale.
Boys Rugby: With playoff spots secured, Belmont hosted Catholic Memorial on May 23—the program’s first meeting with the Knights—before a JV clash against Monty Tech’s varsity team. State brackets were expected to be announced on May 27.
Girls Rugby: Ranked No. 1 statewide, the Marauders were set to close the regular season with a match against Cambridge Rindge & Latin on May 23. The team is looking forward to defending its state title in the upcoming tournament. Seventeen graduating seniors will lead the way.
Boys Tennis: The team secured an MIAA tournament berth.
Girls Tennis (11-8): Despite finishing with losses to top-10 Lexington, Winchester and Westford, the girls are on their way to the state tournament. Responding to injuries on the roster, Anna Bugarinovic and Katia Polina stepped into singles spots, and Holly Kong posted an impressive win at No. 2 on the clay courts at Winchester. Final rankings will decide whether Belmont opens the postseason at home.
Boys Volleyball: A playoff-saving bid fell short against Winchester on May 19. Senior Night was scheduled for Friday, May 23, where the team was set to honor senior captains Liam Sinclair, Larry Zhang, and classmates Ali Gilani and Anson Lei.
Ultimate Frisbee (9-2): Nationally ranked Belmont finished the regular season with a 13-9 loss to Lexington on May 20. Sophomore Parker Reynolds kept the Marauders close with some big catches and key defensive plays. The team was scheduled to compete in the Division 1 State Tournament on Memorial Day Weekend.
