BHS Sports Wrap – Week in Review (Sept. 12 – Sept. 19)

Golf — Belmont improved to 7–1 after a strong week that featured a road win at Burlington to open the stretch, followed by a “huge” victory at Reading and a home win over Winchester. Coaches credited contributions from an experienced lineup as the group continued its efficient play.

Football — Belmont traveled to Cambridge on Friday, Sept. 19, to face Cambridge Rindge & Latin. The Marauders briefly led 6-3 in the third quarter before giving up the go-ahead touchdown. The Marauders fell to 0-4 following the 9-6 defeat.

Girls Soccer — The Marauders gave Belmont soccer fans a lot to cheer about at “Soccer Night” on Sept. 20, beating Reading 5-1. The team’s record now stands at 6-1, and they lead the Middlesex League in goals scored with 27.

Boys Cross Country — Belmont hosted Winchester at Rock Meadow on Tuesday and won decisively, 19–39, placing four runners among the top five in the varsity race. Noah Geiger paced all runners, finishing the course in 16:07.

Girls Cross Country — The team hosted its first home meet of the season against Winchester at Rock Meadow, and lost 15-50. Kira Van Kelsted and Reece Bundy led the way for Belmont.

Field Hockey — The varsity moved to 5–1 with two wins this week, over Wakefield and Woburn, and was ranked No. 6 in the Boston Globe’s poll.

Boys Soccer — Belmont topped Woburn, 1–0, on Sept. 17, as sophomore goalkeeper David Klimasmith posted his first career shutout. Earlier in the week, Belmont tied Wakefield 3-3. The boys tied Reading 1-1 on Saturday, Sept. 20, as part of “Soccer Night” in Belmont. The boys won Soccer Night’s Phoenix Cup on penalty kicks. (The result is unofficial.)

Girls Volleyball — Following a five-set loss to Wakefield on Tuesday, Sept. 16, the team split back-to-back matches on Thursday and Friday, beating Woburn and falling to Concord-Carlisle in five sets. Belmont ended the week with a 5-4 record.

Girls Swimming & Diving — Belmont lost to Lexington in a road meet at Lexington early in the week. A home meet against Acton-Boxborough was scheduled for Sept. 19.

Cheer — The cheer team spent the week refining choreography for a routine slated to debut at the Middlesex League 12 competition in six weeks. The squad traveled to Cambridge on Sept. 19 to perform and support the football team.
