Roughly 50% of voters cast their ballots in an election Tuesday that included two hotly contested ballot questions and races for Select Board, School Committee, and Town Moderator.
According to Town Clerk Ellen O’Brien Cushman, of 18,336 registered Belmont voters, 9,230 voted Tuesday.
These totals, however, do not include military and overseas votes, hand count votes (ballots that were unable to be read by the voting machine), and write-in ballots, and therefore are considered unofficial. For this reason, Question 2 was too close to call as of 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Winners of each contested race and the two ballot questions, per unofficial results, are listed below:
Select Board
- Matthew Taylor: 3,851 votes
School Committee
- Meghan Moriarty: 5,354
- Matthew Kraft: 5,176
Moderator
- Michael Widmer: 4,656
Question 1: Proposition 2 ½ Override
- Yes: 5,120
Question 2: To Appoint Board of Assessor
- Yes: 4,218
- No: 4,210
