Baseball. Rain-soaked fields forced the relocation of the Brendan Grant Memorial Day weekend tournament to Watertown and Lynnfield. Unfortunately, the Marauders fell to Reading on Saturday and Burlington on Sunday, finishing the season at 9-11, one win shy of a postseason tournament berth. Starters Eric Porter and Craig Deane kept both contests tight, while senior Ryan O’Byrne collected four hits. These were the final games for graduating seniors O’Byrne, Nolan Kelleher, Dave Kioumejian, Aiden Broderick, Katherine Murphy, Xander Mutch, and Thomas Dolan, as well as managers Jack Callanan and Joe Ianelli.

Boys Outdoor Track. The Marauders were well represented at the Division 2 Championships at Merrimack College. Malcolm Were (triple jump), Mitchell Woo (pole vault), and distance trio Jared Rife, Ian Hettenbach and Noah Geiger (two-mile) competed on May 29. Rife finished in 9:30.19, a personal record and good enough for fourth place. Two days later, Esmael Peavey tackled the high jump, Takeshi Tatsumi the 110-meter hurdles, and Rife joined Eli Meretta in the mile. Belmont also fielded a 4×400 squad of Anthony Katos, Meretta, Isaac Weng and Mark Chumack, plus a 4×800 quartet of Elias Campisano, Henry Heldwein, Reno Ragar and Rohan Licht.

Boys Lacrosse. Belmont closed its regular slate with two late-season tune-ups before falling short against the number 4-seeded Acton-Boxborough in the first round of the Division 1 state tournament on May 30.

Boys Rugby. The Marauders ended league play on May 24 with a convincing win over Catholic Memorial in a steady rain. Earning the No. 3 seed statewide, Belmont’s season ended with a loss to No. 2 Xaverian Brothers on June 4.

Boys Tennis. Belmont finished 11-8 overall and upset No. 16 Xaverian on May 28 to open the Division 1 tournament. At third singles, senior captain Arvino Mahadi clinched the 3-2 victory with a three-set win. Fellow seniors Henry Moriarty and Soyam Pokharel won their matches as well. The boys were scheduled to face top-seeded St. John’s Prep in their next match on June 2.

Boys Volleyball. No matches this week.

Softball. Traveling to Fall River for a first-round tournament game against Diman Regional on May 29, the Marauders won a nail-biter, 5-4. Sophomore pitcher Olivia Ormond struck out 11 and walked just two in the victory. The reward? A matchup against Taunton, the four-time defending state champions, on June 2.

Girls Outdoor Track. The Belmont girls were well represented at the Division 2 Championships at Merrimack College. Senior Dana Lehr won the two-mile with a season-best 10:36.90, while fellow senior Sarah Yu finished strong in the 800 meters, with a season-best 2:20.33. Sophomore Bella Fernandes finished seventh out of 24 competitors in the javelin.

Girls Lacrosse. Belmont (13-7) finished third in the Middlesex League Liberty Division, after a 10-9 comeback win over Billerica on May 24. The girls entered the Division 1 bracket ranked 14th and won their opening-round game over Braintree, 12-7. The Belmont girls were slated to play against Lincoln-Sudbury in the next round. Four players earned league honors: senior captain Charlotte Mayall and junior attacker Sydney Mun were named Liberty Division All-Stars, while junior captain Niamh Lesnik and senior captain Keira Healy were named to the All-Middlesex League Team.

Girls Rugby. Belmont completed an unbeaten regular season by blanking Cambridge 42-0 on May 24. The team is looking forward to defending its state championship in the tournament.

Girls Tennis. The Marauders finished the regular season 11-8 and drew the No. 16 seed in the tournament. In the first round, Newton North was too tough, winning 4-1 on May 30. Armela Mahadi, Giselle Fond, and Holly Kong played singles, while Amy Chen/Avery Cai and Ingrid Hellsvik/Joy Son played doubles.

Ultimate Frisbee. The Ultimate team capped a 15-3 campaign by finishing third at the Division 1 tournament. The team swept the initial pool round, before dropping a semifinal to Arlington and edging Lexington in the consolation match. Ranked third in the state, the Ultimate team is also ranked 33rd in the country.
