I have been a Belmont resident for close to 17 years and a Town Meeting Member from Precinct 1 for 15+ years. I am currently serving my fifth consecutive term.
As a Town Meeting Member, I got a chance to get to know Mike Widmer and see him performing his Town Moderator’s duties during the many hours we spent together in Town Meeting. The job is difficult, complex, and has many intricacies; it requires keeping us in check at all times and finding a balance for everything to flow with ease. I find Mike’s experience and measured personality as two main qualities that keep the proceedings of the Town Meeting running smoothly.
Before a few Town Meetings which had contentious articles in the Warrant, Mike has sent to all Town Meeting members some of the most thoughtful letters. They had carefully chosen words appealing to our sense of mutual respect, tight community, and resolve to conclude in a peaceful and constructive manner.
Mike’s leadership and steady temperament have been keeping Town Meeting functioning effectively and cohesively. I also discovered that Mike has a great sense of humor and knows when to allow some of it to sip into the sometimes-intense discussions, adding a much-needed moment of laughter that eases the tension.
I hope you will join me in voting for Mike to return to another term as Town Moderator!
