Thank you for sharing this letter. (A Plea for Revised Traffic Patterns, Dec. 20, Page 8) I live on Belmont Street, on the Watertown /Belmont line. It’s a horrible intersection and I drive through it daily.
I love the suggestions that the letter writer proposes. I also thought that if the left turning lane was painted a little further back, with a delayed left arrow, traffic would be safer.
Pedestrian safety is not mentioned in the letter. It’s also an issue with that intersection. My daughter took the school bus to Wellington last year and her stop was at the UPS store. She was almost hit by a car at that intersection when crossing the street. (From the gas station to the convenience store.) My son was nearly hit about a month ago crossing from The Bradford to the gas station.
Cars don’t slow for pedestrians when turning. Perhaps because it’s a confusing intersection with aggressive drivers, they don’t always look out for pedestrians.
