Letter: Yates The Right Choice

Appointing qualified volunteers to town committees was one of the most important things I did when I served on the Select Board. Belmont’s volunteer committees recommend and implement policies and are the pipeline for future leadership. Having brought great people into public service is something I am still proud of. I first recognized Taylor’s leadership and dedication when I appointed him to the Vision 21 Implementation Committee in 2019. He has since demonstrated a deep commitment to Belmont and an ability to bring people together to address our town’s most pressing issues.

Under Taylor’s leadership, the Planning Board navigated one of the most challenging zoning amendments in recent history—the MBTA Communities Act. This state-mandated initiative required Belmont to adopt zoning changes that allowed for increased multi-family housing near transit hubs, a topic that generated considerable discussion and debate.

Taylor approached this challenge with diligence, transparency, and a commitment to ensuring that residents’ voices were heard. His efforts culminated in an overwhelming vote of approval at Town Meeting.

Taylor has also been a champion of good government. He chaired the “Yes for Appointed Treasurer” campaign to ensure we always have professional financial management and instituted reforms at the Planning Board that have pushed Belmont’s most productive economic development agenda in years.

I am proud to chair Taylor’s campaign for Select Board. I believe he is the right person to help lead Belmont forward. His expertise in planning, his collaborative approach, and his dedication to the Town make him uniquely qualified to take on this role. Belmont needs thoughtful and experienced leadership to ensure our best days are still in front of us, and I am confident that Taylor is the best person for the job. I encourage all residents to support his candidacy and help ensure Belmont’s continued success.
