I am running for re-election because I want every student to want to be a student in Belmont Public Schools.
As a parent, I entrust the schools with my children’s safety, academic growth, and well-being every day. As an education professional, I know the challenges teachers face today. As an experienced member of the School Committee, I understand the School Committee’s role in making and enforcing policies, formulating and approving budgets, and setting and evaluating goals for the superintendent and the school district.
I was elected in April 2021 and served as chair for two years. Since then, I have worked with fellow School Committee members, town leaders, and state officials to:
- Get kids back in schoolin 2021 by negotiating with unions and improving safe learning spaces.
- Successfully negotiated union contracts that kept kids in school and adjusted wages for paraprofessionals, administrative staff, custodians, and food service employees.
- Secure one-time money to retain kindergarten assistants, offset unexpected increases in special education expenses and rent ice time while the rink is built.
- Hire and onboard a new superintendent in an extremely competitive environment.
- Improve the effectiveness of the School Committee by modernizing policies
- Uplift student voices by ensuring student representation at meetings.
Like every other taxpayer and volunteer in Belmont, I have come to appreciate how “individual commitment to a group effort is what makes [Belmont] work.” I am excited to continue serving our community and making our fantastic school district better than it is today.
