Sen. Will Brownsberger is due his congratulations, but his narrow win sends a message.
Brownsberger won against a newcomer to politics, Daniel Lander, who spent half the money on the campaign and came within 35 votes of winning. Lander’s focus on building a more affordable commonwealth resonated with many in this district and across the state.
I look forward to seeing how Brownsberger responds to the issues expressed by voters– the rising costs of housing and medical care, transportation problems, and responding to President Donald Trump’s policies that negatively impact our communities. As the third most powerful person in the Senate, he has an opportunity and responsibility to look beyond Belmont and think about the rest of his district–Watertown and parts of Cambridge and Boston–and all of Massachusetts.
