Obituary: Ronald A. Arslanian

Ronald A. Arslanian, of Belmont, passed away on Jan. 26, 2025.

Ron was born in 1947 to Anita and Harry Arslanian in Boston. After Ron graduated from Belmont High School in 1965, he went on to study Political Science and Philosophy at Tufts University.

Following his graduation from Tufts in 1969, he began a graduate program at the University of Hawaii but quickly entered the Peace Corps, and served in Thailand. He eventually earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University and purchased General Optical Co. in 1976, which he owned with his wife, Leslie. He went on to spend his career as a business owner and licensed optician in Cambridge for 40 years.

Ron met the love of his life, Leslie Lieb, at Belmont High School, and seven years later, they were married in 1971. Ron and Leslie went on to have two children, David and Jamie.

In 2015, Ron retired from General Optical Co. and focused on enjoying his five grandchildren, playing chess or backgammon, drinking fine wine, and reading the New York Times from cover to cover. He cherished the 60 years he spent with his best friend and wife, Leslie, his forever partner in life, business, and love.

Ron was predeceased by his mother, Anita, his father, Harry, and his brother, James. He is survived by his beloved wife, Leslie; his son, David and his wife Anna, and their children, Isaac, Jacob and Abigail; as well as his daughter Jamie, her husband Ben Filton, and their children, Sydney and Alana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Boston Medical Center Department of Cardiac Surgical, Neurological and Intensive Care Unit, an organization Ron and his family felt strongly about.
