If you are one of the thousands of people or dozens of performers who enjoyed Belmont Porchfest last September, take note: The event is being held Aug. 15 this year.
“This was the only time I could fit it in,” said the organizer and founder Mary Bradley.
Typically, the celebration of community is held on the Saturday after Labor Day, which means it would conflict with Rosh Hashanah this year, Bradley said.
She decided to move to a different spot on the calendar, settling on Aug. 15. So far, sign-ups from performers and hosts have lagged behind previous years’ pace, Bradley said.
As of July 14, 20 hosts and 37 performers had signed up. Because of that slow pace, Bradley has extended the signup deadline to July 30.
“When we get through this, we’ll know if it works in the summer,” Bradley said.
Last year, 114 performers took advantage of 71 improvised stages, playing for thousands of people.
The first Belmont Porchfest took place in 2018. According to the organization’s website, since then there have been 644 performances staged by 2,561 performers before more than 14,000 audience members.
To ensure buy-in this year, Bradley has been reaching out to previous performers and hosts to fill the roster of venues and performers.
“[The performances] could be music; it could be a circus act,” said Bradley in an earlier interview with The Voice.
If you are a performer looking to play, or you are interested in hosting a performer, you can sign up at belmontporchfest.org.
