Massachusetts needs responsible leaders with full appreciation of the nuanced challenges facing the state today. Will Brownsberger has spent two decades working on these challenges in the state legislature and a decade before that in Belmont town government. Throughout this time, he has become well-known for his thoughtful, methodical approach to problem-solving and his ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders to advance meaningful reforms that make Massachusetts a better place to live and work. In addition to his policy accomplishments, Brownsberger’s integrity and commitment to transparency and constituent access are genuinely outstanding–meaningfully better than is typical for elected officials.
In contrast, Brownsberger’s opponent, Daniel Lander, does not seem interested in a serious analysis of the tradeoffs implicit in governing. He supports a number of policies that would exacerbate the state’s problems, limiting our ability to invest in new housing (arguably the most important problem to solve) and broadly impairing our economic competitiveness. He has repeatedly attacked Brownsberger for the state’s low volume of legislation passed in recent years, ignoring that a) Brownsberger has been a driving force behind some of the most consequential reforms of recent years and b) legislative volume is in any case a poor proxy for good governance.
Will Brownsberger has shown his willingness and ability to produce results for Massachusetts and for Belmont; he deserves your vote in the primary this September and in the general election.
