Primary Day Draws 21% of Belmont Voters

Democrat Mara Dolan outpolled veteran Governor’s Councillor Marilyn Petitto Devaney in Belmont Tuesday, mirroring statewide results.

Dolan outpolled Devaney statewide 52-48%. She faces no challenger in the general election.

The unofficial Belmont outcome was 1,635-1403. The town enjoyed about 21% voter turnout, as 3,944 of the town’s 18,579 registered voters cast ballots.

Party-wise, 3,313 Democrats voted, joined by 622 Republicans and nine Libertarian voters.

The only contests on the ballot were for the Governor’s Council and the GOP primary for the right to face Elizabeth Warren for her U.S. Senate seat. In Belmont, John Deaton beat Robert Antonellis 335-217, similar to the state results, and Deaton will face Warren in November.

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
