The municipal skating rink on Concord Avenue will reopen Thursday afternoon after closing due to an issue with the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, according to Rink Manager Erik Harrington.
The rink will reopen at 2 p.m.
Harrington explained Wednesday that there was an issue with the dehumidifier.
“With these extreme temperatures in the high 90s, we anticipated the system may have to work a little harder but…with the condensation that builds up, it makes the ice unsafe to skate on,” he told The Voice.
According to Harrington, high humidity levels cause condensation build-up on the ceiling, which then drips onto the ice. The issue was noticed when the facility was opened Wednesday morning.
The contractor, N.B. Kenney Company, was on site Wednesday afternoon.
