Cardboard Event

Residents are invited to bring cardboard for recycling to the Department of Public Works yard on March 7, free of charge.

The event comes in response to some missed pickups in town, according to Select Board Vice Chair Taylor Yates.

Collection will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 37 C St.

“I encourage everyone to capitalize,” he said.

Annual Audit Process

According to Treasurer and Tax Collector Donna Tuccinardi, the annual audit is expected to be completed by the second week of March, at which time the Select Board will be presented with the findings.

The audit process is a standard occurrence to ensure each municipality’s external financial reporting is accurate, according to Tuccinardi. She clarified that it does not determine the financial health of the town.

GIS Coordinator Position

The town is planning to hire a Graphic Information System (GIS) coordinator.

Chief Innovation Officer Chris McClure said the town is working on building out its GIS to expand its usability.

One of the first improvements to the GIS map is the inclusion of a trash pickup option. Residents can select a street and find its trash pickup information.

Going forward, the plan is to create a map that includes a wealth of data for users.

“The goal with this new GIS position … is we’re going to make this year all about maps and mapping and making property information self-serve,” he said.

Lunar Year Festivities

The Select Board approved a request by the Belmont Pan-Asian Coalition to host the 2026 Multicultural Lunar New Year festival and rolling motor parade on March 15.

Moore Street and the Leonard Street delta will be blocked off for the afternoon to accommodate events activities.

“The idea is to integrate the AAPI communities with the general fabric of Belmont,” said Julie Wu, president of the coalition.

The parade will begin in Boston’s Chinatown at 11:30 a.m. and eventually pass through Belmont Center. According to Wu, District Attorney Marian Ryan will be the parade marshall.

“We’ve done it in the past; it’s a great event …. A wonderful celebration, a lot of fun,” she said.

Belmont LGBTQ+ Alliance to Host Pride Parade

The Select Board approved a request by the Belmont LGBTQ+ Alliance to host the annual Belmont Pride Parade on Sunday, May 31 at 12:45 p.m.

The Wellington Station Town Green will be used the same day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for event activities.

Flag Retirement Ceremony Scheduled

The Select Board approved a request from the Veterans Services officer to schedule a flag retirement ceremony on Sunday, March 15 at Clay Pond.
