Update on DEI Recommendation for Gender Neutral Bathrooms
Town officials are working out the details on how and whether to implement the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Implementation Committee’s recommendation to create gender-neutral bathrooms in public buildings.
Town Administrator Patrice Garvin said town officials are working with the labor unions to determine whether anything may affect employees and with Facilities Director David Blazon on the actual implementation of the recommendation.
“Basically, there’s no major change to any of the current bathrooms other than a signage change,” Blazon said. “[The recommendation] takes single stall bathrooms and changes them from what would be designated as male or women’s, to both, or gender neutral.”
In other words, no plumbing changes would be necessary.
Town Offices to Close on Election Day
To create equity across departments, all town offices will be closed on Nov. 5 for Election Day.
Typically, only the schools close for the day, as several schools across town are used as polling stations.
Additionally, the Select Board voted to designate Town Hall and Beech Street Center as voter parking.
