Superintendent Contract Extended Through 2030

Superintendent Dr. Jill Geiser

The School Committee voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a new contract for Superintendent Jill Geiser. The contract will run from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030.

“I do want to acknowledge Dr. Geiser’s leadership and the work underway across the district that she has been spearheading,” School Committee Chair Meghan Moriarty said. “I think that the agreement that we’ve come to reflects that the School Committee wishes to support the continuation of that work and your very strong district leadership.”

The contract includes a possible one-year extension into 2031. It reflects “both other contract conditions in the district and the fiscal responsibility expected of the School Committee,” Moriarty said.

Geiser’s salary starting July 1 will be $232,000, according to Moriarty. The School Committee evaluated surrounding districts with superintendents holding a doctorate with at least three years of experience, including Weston, Waltham, and Natick, for salary comparison, she added.

Geiser joined the district in 2023. In her three years in Belmont, Geiser has developed a strategic plan for the district, which included crafting a new mission, vision, values, and “Vision of a Graduate” for Belmont Public Schools.

“It is the people on our team that really make things happen, and I want to extend appreciation in that direction as well,” Geiser said.

In a 2025 evaluation of the superintendent by the School Committee, Geiser was praised for her strategic planning, leadership, and commitment to the community. Under her leadership, the district has updated the math curriculum for elementary schools, strengthened social-emotional learning programs, and used data to examine ways to engage and raise the academic bar for underperforming students, according to the report.

Geiser is also a resident of Belmont — a factor that has fueled her connection and commitment to the students, she said.

“One of the things I don’t often talk about, but I find it timely here, is that the experience of being a superintendent in the community where you live is really pretty incredible…that’s something that I just appreciate very much, the opportunity to do that here in Belmont,” she said. “I am looking forward to continuing on with the work.”
