I’m in favor of an off-leash program for dogs in Belmont. I’ve had a dog since September 2023 and have very much enjoyed the opportunity to meet many supportive neighbors through the off-leash program, specifically at Grove Street Park. It’s been a precious community builder for myself and my dog. My dog has been able to enjoy getting good exercise with other dogs running freely together.
I appreciate hearing the comments and concerns of those who want to use the park in peace and value the safety and cleanliness of our parks for all. I would propose that there be more signs up around the park so that dog owners would respect the park and other users of the park. I like the proposition of having dog owners help “police” themselves by having a team that encourages the cleaning and maintenance of the park together to maintain this privilege.
I hope we can come to a place of mutual support for all in our community. I would be happy to hear the specific requests of people who are opposed to see if there could be some sort of peaceful middle ground where all can enjoy the beautiful park spaces we have in town.
