Letter: Testament to Belmont’s Spirit

February 22, 2024

I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for the ongoing and accessible off-leash dog program in Belmont, a key component of our community’s social and recreational life. This program not only fosters a sense of belonging among residents of diverse ages and backgrounds but also enhances the safety and cleanliness of our parks. The engagement of dog owners in the community contributes significantly to the welfare of public spaces, with many taking on the role of stewards by maintaining cleanliness and safeguarding the environment.

Moreover, the off-leash program has effectively addressed the issue of goose waste in our parks, improving the overall park experience for all users. The convenience and benefits provided to dog owners, enabling them to exercise and socialize their pets efficiently, are invaluable. It is imperative that the Select Board and the community at large recognize the importance of such programs in maintaining the health and happiness of both pets and their owners.

A well-managed off-leash program is a testament to the responsible and community-minded spirit of Belmont’s residents. It is crucial that we continue to support initiatives that promote not only the well-being of our canine companions but also the vibrancy and safety of our communal spaces.
