Alex Howard – Candidate for Select Board

head shot
Alex Howard

After serving our country through the Marines and an extensive career in government service, I’m eager to give back to the community where I’ve made my home: Belmont.

I want to focus our efforts on the issues that only our government can address. First, I’d prioritize sound fiscal management of our revenue and expenses so that we can invest in growing our community to create vibrancy and attract the next generation of businesses and residents. This includes a review of zoning that meets a range of housing needs and attracts businesses. Second, I’d prioritize a strong revitalization of our infrastructure, specifically wastewater, sewer, sidewalks, and roads that literally and figuratively pave the way for the engagement of residents across a range of services and social issues that matter to them.

My background uniquely prepares me for service on the Select Board. As a chief scientist at the Air Force Research Laboratory and in my current role in the commercial sector, I have deep expertise in building teams that can identify solutions to complex problems – always in the context of strong budget management. With nearly 30,000 residents in Belmont, there are a few problems we can’t address by working together.

You can find me walking my dog, Ares, near Town Field or taking my youngest son for munchkins (always chocolate) at Dunkin Donuts. Belmont is a long way from St. George, Utah where I grew up, but I’m proud to call it my home and hope to serve as your next Selectman.
