Belmont High School Sports Wrap (April 18 – April 25)

Softball : Belmont faced a challenging stretch this week, dropping two games at home. The Marauders fell 24-0 to Woburn on April 22, followed by a 16-1 loss to Lexington on April 24. The girls are now 2-6 and have an uphill climb to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Baseball : The baseball team had a packed schedule over April break, playing four games in quick succession and going 3-1 on the week, bouncing back from a tough start to build momentum heading into the rest of the season. The stretch began with a 9-0 loss at Westford on April 18. Captain Casey Regan provided a bright spot in the loss, with two doubles. Belmont responded on April 21 with a 5-4 win over Newton South. Senior Captain and pitcher Kyle Ksander delivered nearly five shutout innings on the mound, while captain Charlie Tingos closed out the game to earn the save. The offense came out hot with a four-run first inning, highlighted by Ksander’s two-run double. Regan stayed consistent at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single.

The team carried that momentum into April 22, defeating Woburn 2-1. Tingos came through in the clutch with a two-run double in the sixth to take the lead, while junior Matt Pizzi pitched six efficient innings, allowing just one run. Tingos again shut the door late to secure the win. Belmont capped off the week with a 7-3 extra-inning win over Lexington on April 24. After falling behind early, senior captain Eric Porter delivered a dominant relief outing, throwing seven-plus innings and allowing just one run. The game was tied 2–2 heading into the seventh, where Pizzi made a key defensive play in left field, throwing out a runner at third to force extra innings. Belmont exploded for five runs in the eighth with clutch hitting across the lineup. Sophomore Gabe Kioumejian stood out with three hits and a strong defensive performance at third base in his first game at the position, earning a game ball. After starting April break with a 2-3 record, the Marauders have now won three straight to improve to 5-4, building momentum as they look to a potential postseason berth.

Girls Lacrosse : The Marauders went 1-2 over this stretch, highlighted by a narrow 14-13 win over Andover on April 21. Senior Sydney Mun led the offense with five goals and an assist, while Niamh Lesnik added seven goals. Senior Nora Goulding contributed a goal and two assists, Ruth Siegert had a goal and an assist, and freshman Ellie Siegert chipped in two assists. Belmont followed with a 13-8 loss to North Andover on April 23. Lesnik recorded three goals, while Natalie Merrow and Ruth Siegert each scored twice. Goulding added a goal and an assist, and Belmont also received assists from Mun, Siegert, Lily Cook, and Fiona Rodriguez-Clark. The team then fell to Notre Dame Academy 16-3 on April 25. Lesnik, Mun, and Siegert each scored a goal in the loss.

Boys Lacrosse : Boys lacrosse edged out Newton South, 8-7, on Tuesday, April 21. Offensive production was spread across the lineup, with senior Jasper Rettig leading the way with a hat trick. Senior Captain Declan Doherty added two goals, while Peter Austrotas and Max Valenti each scored as well, with Valenti netting the game-winner to seal the victory.
