Positions are filling up, but Belmont residents can still find work and volunteer opportunities with the town.
Many town departments, including the Recreation Department and Council on Aging, have seasonal paid and volunteer positions for anyone looking to get involved in the community.
According to Recreation Director/Interim Council on Aging Director Brandon Fitts, all lifeguarding positions have been filled, but the Recreation Department is still looking to hire two assistant directors and a handful of camp counselors.
“It’s one of the best jobs around,” said Fitts. “It’s your classic summer job experience.”
Positions are open to anyone 16 years of age or older who loves the outdoors. While most summer workers are high school and college students, Fitts said it’s also a great opportunity for teachers looking for a seasonal job that gets them outdoors.
“We’re many people’s first jobs,” he said. “That’s always kind of fun.”
In addition to the summer camp roles, the Recreation Department has hired 52 people on staff this summer, between lifeguards and the front desk.
“We had a really high return rate this summer,” Fitts said.

Fitts, who also wears the hat of the council on aging director, said the Beech Street Center is looking for volunteers. Typically, these positions are filled by seniors in the community, but anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to inquire.
Volunteers are needed to help with everything from administrative needs to programming and special events. Down the road, he said, there may be a need for garden volunteers.
