Michael Chesson died Dec. 14, 2025. The noted author, historian, and professor of American history moved to Belmont in 1988.
Michael served on the Historic District Commission, the Shade Tree Committee, and was a Town Meeting member. He also served on the Belmont Historical Society board of governors.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Sherwin; son Mark Chesson, and his fiancée, Megan Barth of Houston; daughter Ginny Chesson of Somerville; and his brother, Mark Chesson, and his wife, Dona of Newport News, Virginia; and his nieces Jane and Sarah Chesson.
