At this critical moment in our town, I will confidently vote for Matt Taylor for Select Board. In the midst of a budget crisis, Matt is focused on solutions. As a Town Meeting member and Warrant Committee member, Matt has a deep knowledge of how the town works and is realistic about the challenges we face. He has not only immersed himself in the workings of our town, but he has taken the initiative to help others to understand. He created a visual budget and website that make the town’s finances accessible and understandable to residents, which I believe is a model of the transparency with which he would approach the role of Select Board member.
We need a leader like Matt who not only understands the data but also embodies an entrepreneurial spirit, unafraid to propose bold ideas. In order to reduce our reliance on residential taxes, Matt is committed to increasing the efficiency of town operations by implementing structural changes while increasing our commercial tax base to 10 percent.
As a father of two children in the Belmont Public Schools, Matt is clearly focused on excellence in our public schools. He is also committed to improving sidewalks, ensuring public safety, and providing services to all residents – not just those with children in the public schools. Matt is an empathetic listener who has been traveling door to door to meet as many residents as possible and make personal connections.
The thought of Matt as a Select Board Member gives me hope that we can overcome the challenges our town is facing and come out even stronger. We can do better, Belmont. Matt Taylor is the person to lead us in making Belmont the town we know it can be.
