Letter: Geoff Lubien ‘Will be a Great Asset’

I am writing to urge you to vote for Geoff Lubien for Select Board. I believe he is the best candidate for the position.

One attribute that sets Geoff apart from the other candidates is his longstanding engagement and involvement in the town’s fiscal affairs. I believe that, while the Select Board deals with myriad issues, there is no greater responsibility than its oversight and stewardship of Belmont’s finances.

Geoff has been a member of the Warrant Committee for nine years and has been its chair for the past three years. In addition, he was a key member of the 2019-2020 Financial Task Force II, a select group of representatives from various town committees and town officials that reviewed the town’s financial policies and made recommendations for actions the town could take to address its structural deficit. During that time, Geoff demonstrated the ability to work collegially with his fellow committee members, including town officials – a key skill for serving on the town’s chief executive board which oversees those very town departments.

I have personally served for six years with Geoff on the Warrant Committee, including several years working closely together on the committee’s education subcommittee. During those years working together, I have observed firsthand that Geoff is a tireless worker, grounded in understanding the important elements of an issue and taking the time to listen to people’s viewpoints before seeking a resolution that addresses the issue in a balanced manner – an essential trait for someone to work effectively with their colleagues on the Select Board.

I urge you to vote for Geoff on April 2. I believe that he will be a great asset to the Board.
