Letter: Shovel and Salt Your Sidewalk

As winter continues, I’d like to share a friendly reminder on behalf of the walkers in our community. We truly appreciate the effort residents make to clear snow from their sidewalks after storms. That work does not go unnoticed. However, even after the snow is removed, winter conditions remain.

When temperatures rise during the day and then drop below freezing at night, the melted snow refreezes, creating dangerous patches of ice on sidewalks. These icy stretches pose a real hazard for everyone — children walking to school, neighbors out for exercise, seniors running errands, and those of us walking our dogs. A simple layer of salt or sand can make a significant difference in preventing slips and falls.

We all share these sidewalks, and a little extra attention during freeze-thaw cycles helps keep our community safer for everyone. Thank you for being so considerate.
