In my five years as chair of the Belmont School Committee, I’ve come to know Sen. Will Brownsberger well. He is a trusted partner who listens.
In 2023, Belmont faced one of the most difficult budget seasons in recent memory. We faced
possible teacher layoffs, and families were especially worried about losing kindergarten assistants. These assistants play a vital role in helping our youngest students succeed. I reached out to Will, hoping he might be able to help. He responded immediately and secured $400,000 for Belmont schools. This money helped us keep those positions. His actions made a real difference for our students, families, and educators.
That experience was not an isolated one. During my time as chair, I’ve seen Will consistently step up when Belmont's schools need a partner. He understands that state funding has real consequences in local classrooms, and he has worked to help districts like Belmont address needs that local budgets alone cannot support. This year, he secured $100,000 for much-needed instructional materials and textbooks for our schools. He also secured $125,000 for Belmont High School’s multiple pathways initiative to create a bridge between academics and career paths and develop real-world skills.
What stands out most to me, however, is how accessible he is. Will makes time for a walk or a
cup of coffee to hear directly about what our schools are experiencing. He asks thoughtful questions, follows up, and stays engaged. That kind of partnership builds trust. Public service works best when it combines knowledge, responsiveness, and a genuine commitment to the community. In my experience, Will Brownsberger brings all three. I am grateful for his partnership, and I support his reelection.
