Letter: Vote ‘Yes’ on Override

Three generations of the Lind family have lived in Belmont, beginning in 1972, and we have a deep love for this community. Belmont has enabled our family to thrive. We hope it can do the same for the next generation of Linds: Walter, Alex, Hannon, Julian, and Betsy. However, the town is facing a budget challenge that threatens Belmont’s core values and its commitment to caring for its seniors and children.

I (Kathy) and my late husband Walter raised our three children here and participated in many town activities, including 36 years as a Town Meeting member and more than 20 teaching at Burbank. Watching my children perform in the Belmont High School auditorium, participate in

extracurriculars, and play for Belmont High sports teams gave me great joy.

I am grateful they got a great education and experienced so many wonderful activities in the Belmont Public Schools. I fear that my grandkids and their friends will not have the same opportunities if we do not pass the proposed override in April.

I (Dave) moved my family back to Belmont in 2019, so my kids couldhave as great a childhood as I had. I am lucky to have Mom still in Belmont (free babysitting!), but I worry about the proposed cuts to senior services. I want a thriving Senior Center, speedy EMT responders, and safe roads and sidewalks. All of these things will be possible if Belmont voters pass an override this spring. Without an override, I worry that the town my Mom has committed herself to for decades will no longer provide the services her generation deserves.

Please join us in voting YES on April 2 so that the Belmont we know and love can continue to thrive for future generations of Belmontians. We love this town. Let’s preserve it together.
