From the Stacks: Spotlight on Teen Services at Belmont Public Library

Big things are happening for teens at the Belmont Public Library! One of the most exciting features of our upcoming new library is the expanded Teen Room.

Our staff did a fantastic job creating a welcoming environment for teens in our old building, but they were limited by space. In the new library, the dedicated teen area will be twice the size, offering more room to study, collaborate, and relax. Just down the hall, there will be a community classroom, with maker technology, where we’ll host awesome teen programming and interactive learning opportunities. We will also have several quiet study rooms available for free reservation daily.

The best part? You don’t have to wait until the new library opens to take advantage of all we offer. Belmont Public Library is here for you—right now with plenty of great resources, events, and opportunities to explore.

Support for Young Adults

High school can be overwhelming—capstone projects, college applications, job searches, volunteering—it is a lot. That’s why we’re here to help.

Need research assistance? Stop by Teen Reference Hours on Wednesday afternoons in March and get expert help from our fantastic Young Adult Librarian.

College admissions on your mind? Join our Successfully Navigating College Admissions in 2025 virtual session on March 11 to get tips and guidance on the process.

Want to make a difference and earn community service hours? Consider joining the Teen Advisory Board, where you’ll help shape future library programs (and have fun doing it!).

In the recent Board of Library Trustees debates, every candidate emphasized the importance of serving teenagers and highlighted how the new library will be an incredible third space for young adults—a place beyond home and school where teens can learn, create, and connect.

The Board of Trustees and the library administration are deeply committed to ensuring that Belmont’s teenagers have the resources, space, and support they deserve. As someone who began my librarian career with four years dedicated to teen services, I know firsthand how essential libraries are for young adults. Those years shaped my career, and my passion for supporting teens remains at the heart of everything I do.

While we eagerly await our new and improved teen space, the library is here for you right now! Whether you need help with research, college prep, job applications, or just a great place to explore your interests, we have resources and programs ready to support you.

Stay tuned for exciting updates, and in the meantime, stop by, say hello, and discover all that your library has to offer. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
