Letter: Dismaying Development

I read with dismay the news that the Select Board will be relocating some of its town offices into the Senior Center, aka Beech Street Center, which will utilize and displace resources available to seniors and the Council on Aging.

And, it is reported that the Council on Aging was not consulted before the decision was made.

I am a senior, and can vividly recall the tireless work done by Barbara Miranda and others to build the Senior Center as a single purpose project dedicated to providing programs for seniors.

That’s the way it was presented to Town Meeting.

That’s the way it was voted by Town Meeting. That’s the way the town voted when the voters approved the funding of the Senior Center project. That’s what was promised to the town. That’s what we expect.

Unless there are more facts, it would seem the Select Board is running roughshod over the Council on Aging and the voters and taxpayers of Belmont.

The Select Board should reconsider its decision.
